Essay

1.   Your best friend isn't very well but he or she doesn't want to go the doctor's. Write to an online doctor describing what is wrong with your friend and ask the doctor for some advice.

2.   Write an advertisement for a new kind of keep fit class.

Write a good headline and include the following:

        when the class takes place and what time

        the address

        what special clothing people need to wear

        if there are any rules

        how much it costs

3.   Write a short note or message to a friend telling him or her the best way to get to your house from the train station. Remember that when you write notes you don't always need to use the following: articles, pronouns, auxiliary verbs and polite forms.

4.   Write a news story based on a true event. Plan your story including the points below.

Say:

        when and where it happened

        what the weather was like

        who was there and what they were doing

        what happened

        what happened next

        if it had a happy or sad ending.

5.   You ordered some software for your computer but the company sent you the wrong program. Write an email to the company and request that they send you a replacement. Remember to use fairly formal language and to be polite. Say what the problem is and what you expect them to do about it.

6.   Write a description of a party or celebration with friends or family.

Say:

        what the party was for

        who was there

        what the food, music, costumes and decorations were like

        why you enjoyed it.
